Health

The saying goes… When wealth is lost, nothing is lost. When health is lost, something is lost. When character is lost, everything is lost.

People with meagre income suffer from adverse health conditions owing to mainly two reasons –first the lack of education and thus lack of awareness and second the unwillingness to lose a day’s wage in order to reach the nearest medical facility. Healthcare for the underprivileged, a desperate need thus remains unaddressed.

The need of the hour is thus a bi-forked approach – first to bring quality healthcare services to doorsteps of the needy and second to promote healthcare awareness and contemporary healthcare seeking behaviour among the underprivileged.

This idea basically aims at creating a community in every slum, which would work towards solving the issues of accessing primary health care in their colony. The issues range from long distance and lack of direct transportation to the healthcare centres or the poor conditions of the Primary healthcare centres themselves.

The said community would involve the Residents and NGOs working together to achieve the following:

  1. - Establishing a transportation system to the nearest Primary Healthcare centre.

  2. - Collaborating with the nearby doctors and hospitals to promote the doctors to volunteer for check-ups in the colonies every two days.

  3. - To create an emergency health fund, with equal participation of the residents which would cater to the primary healthcare needs of the residents themselves.

In spite of the health care measure adopted by the State and the Country, the residents have very limited access to standard primary health care. This idea will empower the community to improve their access to healthcare.
